A PROJECT that united different generations of people in Southampton was celebrated yesterday.

Schoolchildren and adults in St Denys and St Mary's began work on the exhibition, called My Place and Me, in January.

They looked at how the local area had changed over the years and the effects of regeneration.

And after three months of hard work, the different generations met up at St Denys Primary School, Dundee Road, for a tea party to celebrate the end of the project.

The children had interviewed several senior citizens to produce art work for the exhibition inspired by the tales they had heard.

Headteacher Carolyn Fayle said: "They enjoyed the project very much.

"They particularly liked speaking to the older people, and the work they have produced has been very good."

The exhibition was funded by the Single Regeneration Budget.

SRB community projects officer Cynara Davies said: "The exhibition gives people the opportunity to look at where they came from with a view to the fact that the area could be changing a lot in the near future.

"It's a heritage project really."

Pupils at St Mary's Primary School, Ascupart Street, were also involved in the project and the school is holding a similar event today.

The work that both schools produced, which includes ceramics and photographs, will be exhibited to the public at the Tudor House Museum from March 29.
