NEWS broadcaster John Suchet made sure he was not shaken or stirred when he landed - literally - in Eastleigh.

The ITN journalist was helicoptered in to Southampton International Airport to be part of the James Bond-themed evening at The Point dance and arts centre, where he was special guest speaker last night. He was flown in at ITN's expense after being involved in making an advert for the broadcasting network.

"ITN reporters from all over the world were flown in for it and this was the only way I could be here," said Suchet.

The evening was organised by Eastleigh council to celebrate arts and tourism in the borough - also marking the launch of its strategy for 2000 - and Suchet surprised the audience by giving a talk on one of his favourite subjects, the life and music of Beethoven.

"It's about as far removed from James Bond as you can get, I just hope the audience enjoy it," he joked.
