SOUTHAMPTON'S A&P shipyard scored a successful double with the completion of an important two-vessel contract for P&O Stena Line.

First in the King George V dry-dock for annual refit was the 7,432 ton roll-on/roll-off cargo ferry European Pathway which was then followed by its sister-ship, European Seaway.

John Alcindor, fleet technical manager of the Dover-based P&O Stena Line said: "It was a first class docking with all parties working well together and excellent co-operation from all at A&P Southampton during the refit period.

"We are very pleased with the yard's performance, completing both vessels on time and on budget."

A&P says the two-ship refit is an example of the ongoing development of the relationship between the company and P&O Stena Line, with their vessels docking regularly at facilities throughout the group's shipyards.

Mike Smith, managing director of A&P Southampton, said: "From my perspective both refits have gone extremely smoothly and I think the teamwork between all parties to achieve a common goal has been first class, particularly on European Pathway which came over the Christmas and millennium period."

"Having watched the European Seaway leave the dry-dock I would like to thank P&O for entrusting the annual refits of both the European Pathway and European Seaway to us and we are looking forward to welcoming them back in the future.''
