Pompey manager Tony Pulis has offered one of his former young pros-pects a chance to resurrect his career.

Pulis is giving a trial to midfielder James Corbett, who was considered something of a prodigy when Gillingham sold him as a teenager to Blackburn for £600,000.

Corbett is well-known to Pulis form their days at the Kent club together but after the 19-year-old failed to make an impression at Ewood Park, the Pompey manager is taking the opportunity to cast an eye over him.

"Jimmy's a decent player who has got lost in the machinery at Blackburn a bit. He had a bad injury when he first went up there and never really got going.

"I've offered him a chance to come and train with us for a few days so we can have a look at him."

Blackburn would require a fee for Corbett although Pulis would want to pay less than the £600,000 Rovers splashed out for him.

"I'm not thinking in terms of price or anything like, we'll see how far this gets first of all," said Pulis.

John Durnin has completed his move to Carlisle from Pompey.
