WHEN Rachel Mullett started having pains in her stomach, little did she know she was about to give birth to her first child.

The 25-year-old had no idea she was pregnant, but baby Sean came into the world just four hours after she was taken to hospital feeling unwell.

The shocked new mum from the New Forest had been on Guide camp, canoeing with the Sea Scouts and letting her hair down at various parties and weddings over the past nine months.

She also has a heart condition - which means she could not be given any pain-relief drugs and should have been watched more closely than most during pregnancy.

"Sean has not had the 100 per cent ante-natal care that he should have done.

"My partner reckons he's come out for a rest," said Abbey Life support clerk Rachel.

"It was a bit of a shock to say the least."

Baby Sean weighed a healthy 6lb 7oz and is now home with his stunned parents at their one-bedroom flat in New Milton.

They had not planned to have children right now, and amazed friends have rallied round to help them with the supplies they need for the new arrival.

Rachel's partner, Adrian Benson, said: "I was scared of what was going on with Rachel and didn't really think about anything else.

"They were not sure how far gone she was - so it could have been premature, a miscarriage or anything."

Once the panic was over he said he was "over the moon".

Rachel's mum, Margaret, rushed straight to Poole Hospital when she heard the news.

"I was so shocked. They had been round to lunch the day before and we had no idea then at all.

"She was still in her normal clothes and still wearing her jeans."

Margaret, of Southbourne, Bournemouth, added: "She has worked as a nanny so she is quite well-equipped to look after a child and she has always loved children."
