RAIL buffs have teamed up with Fareham Borough Council's Countryside Service to plant a millennium hedge.
The new hedge is taking shape beside the model railway track of Fareham and District Society of Model Engineers, off Segens-worth Road.
The scheme involves 300 native hedgerow trees, such as hawthorn, blackthorn and field maple. They will act as a living landscape and security asset for the future of wildlife and the community.
The countryside service is paying for the trees and enlisted the help of Fareham Day Services, a group of people with learning difficulties, for the operation. This group helps the service each week with valuable conservation work. Volunteers from the model-engineers society also helped with site preparation and planting.
