SAINTS 2 EVERTON 0

Saints eased the pressure on manager Dave Jones as they bounced back to winning ways with a vital victory over Everton with two cracking 20-yard strikes.

The opener came after 47 minutes when Jo Tessem drilled in his first for the club to beat substitute goalkeeper Steve Simonsen.

Nine minutes later, Matthew Oakley ran from the halfway line and rode two tackles before firing home on his return from injury.

It was a display full of character and Saints could have gone 3-0 up 20 minutes from time when Marian Pahars was denied by a good save and then shot wide with only the keeper to beat.

Everton had chances to get back into it but were denied by two superb saves from Paul Jones.

But Saints deserved the win which lifted the gloom which has hung over The Dell since two dismal away defeats.
