Whatever style you choose for your hair this season one thing your party outfit would not be complete without is hair accessories.

Clips and slides are big news again this festive season.

Penny Etheridge, principal art director of Storm Hair in Southampton, said: "There are a load of lovely grips around in the shops at the moment, especially suited for those with short hair. Put them in the front, perhaps at a diagonal, or try four or five in a row to make a real statement with them. Anyone with an Anthea Turner-style cut will look particularly pretty and festive with one of the small, dainty tiaras around at the moment.Place it in the centre of your hairstyle, allow the fringe to fall forward and tuck the rest of your hair behind your ears and flick the hair out at the back.

"Shoulder-length hair that is layered can be pinned at random all around the head to create a tousled up do that doesn't look too formal but still looks sexy. To twist the hair take 1in sections of hair and wrap them up one at a time around your first and middle finger.Slide your fingers out to make a tube then just twist them into your head and grip. Butterflies, flowers and stars all look great pinned at random in the curls plus they hide the grips!

"Finally, the classic chignon makes a welcome return this Christmas. This is only for those whose hair is shoulder length and longer. The chignon looks great with a large flower placed to one side below the ear or perhaps using just an ornamental comb. Whatever you choose you can afford to go quite wild and elaborate with accessories to go with this style as the hair itself is quite simple.

"A tip for doing a chignon yourself at home: get the hair into two very low ponytails one on top of the other. Divide the ponytails into roughly seven sections, then coil each one into the head and grip individually - it sounds complicated but it isn't at all.

The biggest news stylewise for the millennium is the undercut. This is a revolutionary new haircut that is extremely versatile and warable. The undercut can have either a strong arced fringe or longer lengths can surround the face for a more layered back loo."
