Ged Harrop has won the Mill Rythe men's singles title at Hayling Island after beating Colin Monk 4-3 in the final.

Harrop had been in tremendous form and claimed the scalps of Graham Smith, Martyn Dunford, Martin Hurley and Andy Jenkins on his way to the final. Semi-final losers Jenkins and Mick Cookman teamed up for success in the doubles.

Ladies' champion is Sue Challis after beating county colleague Sarah Tolley 3-2 in the final. Joanne Fox and Ann Dowell were the beaten semi-finalists.

James Wade won the junior singles title with a 2-0 triumph over Danny Ballard in the final.

There were no shocks or surprises in the first round proper of the Howard Shergold Cup in the Bishop's Waltham Men's League although New Inn A came close to upsetting their Division 1 opponents, Grapes.

Sam's and Cricketers face a tricky trip to Wheatsheaf B in the quarter-finals in February. The cup-ties produced just one maximum - from Pete Collins (Wheatsheaf) - and one century plus finish from Billy Taylor (112).

Mary Steer was the lone winner for Bricklayers when they met Woodman in the Bishop's Waltham Ladies' League.

Steer won the second game to square the match at 1-1. Donna Peplow hit a brilliant eight-dart leg but still lost 2-1 as Woodman clinched the points. Sue Glover, Pat Lamb, Val Earley, Viv Clark, Joan Freemantle and Sue Lambeth won the points for Woodman.

Unbeaten Mottisfont moved four points clear at the top of the Romsey & District Ladies' Premier Division with a 4-3 victory at Parish Lantern, their closest rivals. But the highest score of the week came from Joanne Gregory of Dog & Crook with 122.

William IV produced the highlights in Division 2 after Louise Basset high-scored with 140 and Val Holmes threw a 78 finish. But they could not stop Comrades B pipping them 4-3.

Teams at the top of both Lyndhurst WMC League divisions registered big wins. Forest Hotel thrashed Minstead 7-0 in Division 1 and Brush Puppies slammed White Horse 6-1 in Division 2. In the previous round of fixtures, Waterloo had won their first match of the season. This week they were on the receiving end as Staggerers - who have received TrophyMan Team of the Month nomination - won their first match, beating Waterloo 4-3.

Tightest game was between Nomads at home to Mailmans. Ray Gulliford, Ray Ford, Pete Husband and Len Ogden were triumphant for Nomads in the see-saw clash while George McClarin, Colkin Russell and Sandy Wherrett chalked up wins for Mailmans. Losing out were Colin Graham, Peter Thompson, Graham Hitton, Bernie Kempton, Chris Witt, Ron Gibbs and Mark Abbott.

Johnny Topham threw a maximum for Lyndhurst as they won 4-3 at the Foresters.

In the Freemantle Shirley & District Dart League Maybush crushed Anchor & Hope 8-1 togo top of Division 1.

But it was Holy Family Club who took they eye after J Isherwood and R Brooks ran in maximums. Key and Anchor player S Barnes also ran in a 180 and there were two big finishes. Mark Good of Boundary hit a 124 and for D Tubbs there was a 105 checkout.

Fox & Hounds have finally won their first Itchen & District match of the season. The points came at Roll Call A. Maximums came from Andy Tracey (Grove) and Graham Sharp (Marsh). Hinkler and Grove continue to battle it out for lead at the top of the table.

A third team have had points deducted for late result sheets in the Totton & District Ladies Legue.

Peg & Parrot B, chasing for honours in the league, suffered the setback to dent their hopes of big points when they returned the sheet late after beating Elephant and Castle 4-3. Crowns slipped up when they fell 5-2 to bottom club White Horse who were celebrating their first win of the season.
