SOUTHAMPTON Running Club and Team Solent each had cause for celebration as the Hampshire Road Race League reached its conclusion at the Brading 10K.

SRC completed the task of securing both the men's A and B Division team trophies after an exciting duel with Team Solent who were runners-up in both sections.

But the consolation for Solent was producing their best result in the nine-year history of the league and tak-ing the Team Challenge Trophy thanks to Thorsten Warneke (2nd), Bob Wilson (5th), Andrew Webster and Daniel Pallordet, who gained a personal best on the testing Isle of Wight course.

First SRC man home was Neil Hotson (7th and 3rd vet-40) in 35 minutes and 25 seconds and the A squad was completed by Malcolm Riddle (11th 36.27), Derek Ward (17th 37.33) and Ian Richardson (18th 37.36).

Peter Barlow (19th 37.40) spearheaded SRC's B squad charge, followed by Mike Smith (22nd and 3rd vet-50 37.56), Derek Warn (35th 39.43), Dave Adams (50th 41.05), Richie Pearson (55th 41.28), Martyn West (57th 41.34), Malcolm Price (63rd 42.35) and Kim Batten (69th 42.54).

Next season the Hampshire Road Race League will be extended to ten fixtures, commencing with the New Forest Half Marathon on September 12.
