SAINTS star goalkeeper Antti Niemi's future at St Mary's remains in doubt - just three days away from the start of the Championship season.
The Finn missed Saturday's friendly with Anderlecht and also failed to turn up for the club's annual pre-season photo call and training yesterday.
With Saints' opening game against Wolves at St Mary's fast approaching, manager Harry Redknapp is unsure as to whether Niemi will declare himself available.
The fans favourite, though, has assured supporters:
He WANTS to stay at the club, even though his wages have been halved following relegation;
His situation has "nothing" to do with manager Harry Redknapp, who "has been as good as gold" as the player attempts to solve his contract problem.
The 33-year-old is due to meet with chairman Rupert Lowe in a bid to resolve the issue.
