CONTROVERSIAL plans to turn a Hampshire farm into a giant gravel pit are likely to be approved today.
Proposals to extract more than 800,000 tonnes of sand and gravel at Downton Manor Farm, Milford-on-Sea, have sparked more than 1,200 objections.
Hampshire county councillors are expected to fly in the face of local opinion.
Members of the authority's regulatory committee will be advised to approve the application, which has been submitted by New Milton Sand and Ballast.
Campaigners say the recommendation has been met with disbelief in Milford, where residents have spent months fighting the proposals.
