SHANE Watson is convinced his bowling can help him cement a regular place in the Australian Test XI - despite his wicketless display in the Super Test.

The Hampshire all-rounder said he felt "comfortable" rubbing shoulders with the world's best in the Super Test against the Rest of the World in Sydney.

And the 24-year-old, who starred for the Hawks in 2004 and 2005, believes he has the bowling armoury to prove he is worth a regular Test slot.

Watson was a shoe-in for the Super Test after winning two man-of-the-match awards in the preceeding three-match one-day series.

He was top man in the first game at Melbourne after taking 3-43 and producing a run-out.

He scored only eight in that match but, in the final match of Australia's 3-0 whitewash, he struck a run-a-ball unbeaten 66 before cleaning up the World tail to finish with 4-39.

It made his Super Test figures of 24 and 10 with the bat and six wicketless overs a bit of a disappointment. Watson was playing only his second Test after making his debut against Pakistan in Sydney in January.

"I see there is an opportunity at the moment for an all-rounder but there are no assurances, even when you are in the team, that you will get an extended run," he said. "It all depends on your performances.

"I felt really comfortable out there (at Sydney), I felt I have the game and the technique to be a Test match batsman so it was disappointing not to be able to cash in."
