RESIDENTS who have put up with a noisy Hampshire recycling facility in their back yards for almost a decade were today celebrating after planning chiefs rejected an application to let it remain.

Thunderous noise, dust, vibrations and lorry congestion have become a part of everyday life for the past nine years for people living near Rookery Farm in Swanwick.

The noisy recycling facility for construction and demolition materials has operated on a landfill site there, ruining the peace and quiet of local residents.

However, county councillors have put an end to their misery by refusing to allow Raymond Brown Ltd permission to keep the facility, despite recommendations from planning officers that it should stay.

Councillors rejected the application on the grounds that it was just too noisy.
