Four members from Winchester and District Athletic Club travelled up to near Wolverhampton to take part in one of Europe's toughest off-road race events, namely the "Tough Guy".
This race features not only a hard cross country run first but finishes with numerous obstacles to negotiate, including going underwater several times, 40 foot climbing frames, tunnels, deep mud, wading through deep water - and all outdoors on a very cold and frosty January morning!
Mike Davies (race number 1096) was first home for Winchester in an extraordinary time of 2 hours, closely followed by Malcolm Green (race number 1332) in 2:17, Andy Tremain (race number 1284) in 2:46 - despite having lost a shoe in the mud and having to spend the last 45 minutes tackling the obstacles wearing just one!
Finally Steve Goodwin (race number 1001), marking his sixth and definitely last Winter Tough Guy, took 3:01.
