RESIDENTS in Southampton have been awarded for being good neighbours and helping to improve their community.
By giving up their time to take part in a range of events and schemes in the Thornhill community residents have been recognised for making the area a better place to live in the ceremony from regeneration project Thornhill Plus You.
Nominees are selected by residents of all ages for their hard work in the community, which can range from helping set up a weekly playgroup, assisting elderly and disabled neighbours and volunteering their assistance in major events such as the Thornhill Festival.
Categories include Young Achiever of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Neighbour of the Year, and they are decided by judges made up of people from the police, Kings Church and Southampton Voluntary Services. Southampton mayor Councillor Edwina Cooke handed out the prizes at the annual awards night held at Thornhill's Eastpoint Centre.
