A North Baddesley pensioner has produced a handy guide to computers for senior citizens.

Baddesley historian Una Lonergan's 25-page book, Una's Guide to The Computer - A Basic Introduction to Computing for Seniors by a Senior, is a simple and easy to understand self-help publication.

Una said: "I started on a computer about 10 years ago when my son-in-law got a posting abroad and he gave me his old Amstrad computer with a daisy wheel printer.

"I spent months teaching myself 'touch typing' and have a go. In 1998 I got a new computer with Windows 98 installed and started to learn from scratch. I went to classes and over the years learnt a lot. Now I have Windows XP and can use the Internet, send e-mails and use a scanner and digital camera."

Bob Howlett has done the book's layout and graphics. Una's book is ideal for the first time user and it takes the reader through a step-by-step guide to operating a computer in the simplest terms possible and it even has a picture of a keyboard highlighting all the controls on it.

Una added: "Every other text book whether Grannies Guide, seniors guide or whatever, is written by experts, who can't get down to beginners level. I learnt over the years by making every mistake possible. I tested mine on half-a-dozen over 50s and they all thought it was the answer to any problem they had. In the book I have explained in great detail, which key to press etc."

Una, a keen historian, has previously published a number of books on North Baddesley's history and produced the video - The Story of North Baddesley from Domesday to the Millennium.
