WELLOW Tennis Club has been left in the dark after its application for floodlights was refused by Test Valley Borough Council's Southern area planning committee.
It had applied for 12 floodlights fixed to nine eight-metre high stanchions at Hatches Farm in Foxes Lane, East Wellow.
The scheme attracted 14 letters of objection as well as a call from Wellow Parish Council for a deferral so that there could be a demonstration of the effect of the lights on nearby properties.
Objecting residents claimed the lights were not needed as there were alternative night time facilities at Lordshill.
They also warned that the lights would: - Form an oasis of light in a rural setting - Distract vehicles on Romsey Road - Urbanise this part of the village. - Cause noise pollution. - Affect local flora and fauna.
But as many of the club members did not live in Wellow they would not experience these problems, said the objectors.
