PROMISING gymnast Nathan Jones has his sights firmly set on London's 2012 Olympic Games.

The up-coming talent from Southampton's Dynamo School of Gymnastics caught the eye of a national coach while trialling for the European Junior Championships at Lilleshall.

As a result, Jones, 17, and his coach Adam Paterson, have been invited to the final trial at the new gymnastics facility at Loughborough University next week.

Jones recently gained his Great Britain colours when he travelled to Berlin for his first international against some of the world's best youngsters.

Opening with a very difficult backward double straight somersault followed by a running double front somersault, Jones performed an outstanding floor routine.

However the nerves of the big occasion got the better of him and two falls in his pommel routine dropped him down the rankings.

Nevertheless, he finished a highly-creditable 17th overall in the junior section.

Dynamo's director of coaching Debbie Hampton said: "Now that Nathan has been recognised by the national coach he will have more opportunities to gain the experience necessary to compete on the world stage."
