Andy Forbes'S scoring drought is well and truly over.

After a mid-season lull, the Eastleigh marksman was back to his goal-hungry best in last night's 4-1 Conference South victory at home to Weston-super-Mare.

The former Winchester City goal ace, below, bagged a goal in each half to hoist his season's tally to 18 and manager Paul Doswell smiled: "He's back!

"Andy kept telling me that he was going to score 25 this season and I don't think he'll be far off it now.

"You want your strikers to score at least 20 goals."

Eastleigh opened the scoring on nine minutes when Danny Smith set up Dave Town to bury his tenth goal in 14 games since joining from Havant & Waterlooville.

Town's strike partner got in on the act around ten minutes later when David Hughes chipped the ball to the back post following a short corner and Forbes was waiting to head home.

By the half-hour mark the Spitfires were 3-0 up and again Forbes was involved. He was brought down some 20 yards out and Smith got a headed deflection on Ryan Ashford's free-kick.

"That one looked really well-rehearsed, but I can assure you it wasn't - we haven't trained for weeks," laughed Doswell.

Suddenly Weston came into the game, making it 3-1 with a header from a corner and forcing Eastleigh keeper Wayne Shaw, below, into a couple of crucial saves.

But Forbes restored the three-goal cushion after the break when, with Weston appealing in vain for offside, he broke through to score from Jack Smith's precision through ball.

"Weston came here on a good run and it was a pleasing result," said Doswell. "It wasn't the most exciting second half, but it did the job."
