HEALTH bosses say that following the closure of New Street Medical Centre last week, the transfer of patients to other GP surgeries is complete.

The majority of the 2,005 patients were transferred to the surgery nearest them through a managed dispersal process.

The PCT felt it was better and safer to assign patients so that they were registered in case of an emergency.

Care was taken to ensure that members of the same family and people who live together could be registered at the same surgery. Patients with special problems were transferred to a GP practice with the appropriate expert knowledge. People also had the chance to change the GP practice they were assigned to. About 150 calls were received and requests accommodated.

Karen Ashton, director of primary and community care, said: "We are very grateful to patients formerly registered at New Street for their co-operation and understanding.

They have helped us make the move as efficient as possible. We would also like to thank all other local practices who have taken on extra patients."

Anyone who still has concerns about their transfer arrangements should contact the Practitioner and Patient Services Agency (PPSA) on 01962 853361.
