IT'S still not too late to take part in the Winchester Race for Life this Sunday.

There are 600 places available, and organiser Lorna Glanfield hopes many women will have been inspired by the recent London Marathon.

"Many of those inspirational women who completed the 26.2 miles first caught the running bug by taking part in a Race for Life, and have gone on to enjoy running and long-term fitness.

"Race for Life provides a unique motivation to start taking regular exercise and maintain a healthy body weight, while raising vital funds to support research into

cancer.

"So far 2,378 women have entered the Winchester Race for Life, and we hope many more are now inspired by the marathon to sign up and join them," she said.

This year, the Winchester event is aiming to raise £200,000 which will help support Cancer Research UK's life-saving work.

Among those taking part are staff from the Wessex Conference Centre at Sparsholt College.

Spurred on by the enthusiasm of two of the previous year's entrants, Eileen Bolton and Sue Reeves, the Wessex Conference Centre will field a team of five - Eileen and Sue, plus Kate Woodland, Julie Longman and Amanda Stebbing.

Conference co-ordinator Sue Reeves said: "We all know someone whose life has been touched by cancer, and we feel that this is an excellent way of making our own contribution to cancer research."

The Winchester event takes place at River Park Leisure Centre from 11am, and women will run and walk around the 5km course. Those wishin to enter can visit www.raceforlife.org or call 08705 134314.
