GOLDEN Ring boxing club trainer Stuart Gill believes promising youngster Iain Weaver was "robbed" when he lost the national final of the junior ABAs in Barnsley.
Weaver, 16, below, was thought to be ahead on points going into the final round of his 52kg fight against Northside's Anthony Leake last weekend.
But the judges did not see it that way and Leake took the fight 5-2 and the title.
"I'm really upset" said Gill. "I thought Iain was 2/3 up after the first and when they gave us the scores he was one down.
"Then in the second I thought he had pulled it back and was 2/3 up again. This time he was two down.
"In the third I told him to go out and just have a fight and put pressure on.
"He did and I thought he had done more than enough to win it. They gave it 5-2 to Leake.
"Lots of other coaches said they thought Iain was robbed."
l Gill was today due to pick up an unsung hero award from BBC Radio 5 Live as recognition for his 18 years' service to nurturing the talent of young fighters in Southampton.
