Sir.-I write regarding the decision to abandon the bid to show the World Cup on a big screen in Basingstoke.

When my friend told me about the idea, I was so excited at the prospect of watching the England games on a big screen like they do in London and other major cities and towns.

Now I hear it's not going to happen, it's very disappointing.

My college friends and I were excited about the thought of being able to watch the games together and with a huge crowd of people.

Now we will have to go to London if we want to feel an atmosphere.

Also, young people won't be able to get into pubs in town to watch the games, so surely it makes sense to show them in the park.
