A MAN died when his high-powered car overturned during a police chase in Hedge End last night.
Officers in Eastleigh are appealing for witnesses following the accident on Tollbar Way at about 11.10pm.
The single occupant of the red car sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.
Formal identification of the driver is expected later this morning after next of kin have been informed.
Two police officers following the high-powered car were not involved in the collision and were not harmed.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed because of the police car's close proximity to the red car, in accordance with normal procedure.
Officers investigating the accident closed Tollbar Way and Budd Lane, between Wellington Park Road roundabout and Denhams Corner roundabout.
A section of Maunsell Way where it joins Tollbar Way was also shut.
Any witnesses who saw the red car earlier in the evening, or the collision, should urgently contact the Roads Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh on 0845 045 4545.
