RAISING money around the clock, a pair of Eastleigh cyclists have completed a cycling marathon by pedalling for 24 hours.

Between them Adam South, pictured left, and Matt Bennett, right, cycled more than 518 miles to raise funds for national charity Cancer Research UK.

"It was something we both wanted to do as we both have close family members who have suffered from cancer," said Adam, 19, who is duty manager at Fleming Park Leisure Centre where the gruelling challenge took place.

"It was a great atmosphere as we did it. People would come up and talk to us and give their support, which is great because it can be quite boring sat on an exercise bike for so long."

Sponsorship money for the challenge is still coming in, but the energetic duo have already reached their £600 target.

"We have so far received £465 in sponsorship and with gift aid that has taken us up to £600, but we are still collecting at the moment so should raise a bit more," said Adam.

They are now planning more fundraising events, including the Three Peaks Challenge, where they will have to climb the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales.
