GARY the goose is looking for plenty of open space, perhaps some ducks to play with, a little human company, and loads of plants to nibble on.

If you can provide all of the above then staff at the Stubbington Ark Animal Shelter can provide the perfect tenant. Gary the Goose, pictured above with Barry Hobbs of the RSPCA, has been living at the Fareham shelter for more than a month while staff desperately try to find him a new home.

But being a fully grown Canadian Goose cross breed, the problem has been made worse because of his large size and the "honking" noise he makes every time he opens his mouth.

Kate Jackson, an animal care assistant at the shelter, said: "His previous owner brought him to us because he was just too loud." Gary was living at a house in Fareham but neighbours complained about the racket he made and so was brought to Stubbington Ark at the end of March.

RSPCA staff are launching an appeal to re-house Gary.

Miss Jackson added: "Since he arrived he has made a lot of noise and eaten a lot of food. We think he's very lonely because when he was allowed out he got on really well with the other geese and the family, but he started eating all the plants and that's why he was returned. We would invite anyone with a large enough property to get in touch."

Anyone who can provide Gary with a loving home should call the Stubbington Ark on 01329 666918.
