Some excellent undulate rays have been recorded from boats heading out of Poole.

Two Hampshire-based anglers sampled some action while fishing from True Blue skippered by Malcolm Collins.

Ken Allard, who lives near Andover, was the first to strike, heaving a 16lb 8oz beauty over the gunwales. He was using hired Penn tackle along with fresh mackerel for bait.

Not to be outdone John Fletcher recorded a brace of undulate rays weighing 10lb 12oz and 14lb 4oz in the space of 30 minutes during a separate sortie on the same boat. Once again the novice sea angler used hired tackle and fresh mackerel for bait. All the fish were returned alive.

l Some excellent black bream continue to figure along the western fringe of the area.

Highcliffe's Michael Stapleton was afloat to a mark over Christchurch Ledge where he took 14 bream during the session with the best fish weighing in at 3lb 7oz. Apart from the bream he also landed a 5lb 2oz bass along with a brace of ballan wrasse with the best fish weighing 3lb 7oz.

l Variety was the key during the fourth round of the pegged open Isac League which was staged at West Bexington where 79 of the 99 competitors return fish to the scales.

Southampton's Steve Deathe recorded a new league record in the shape of a 10.75oz herring. Species landed during the five-hour fixture included three dabs, 102 dogfish, two flounders, seven herring, one pipefish, 37 plaice, 18 poor cod, 59 pouting, one small-eyed-ray and one thorneback ray.

The event was fished in four sections with Mike Kempster taking the top honours while fishing from C section with a 9lb 1.75oz mixed bag. Runner-up was Gary Soulsby with 3lb 6.25oz followed by Tony Burton 3lb 0.25oz and Allan Jones with 2lb 9oz.

Lee Cullen from Netley had the second heaviest weight of the night while pegged in B section with 8lb 15oz/. His catch included a 3lb 14oz thorneback ray. Colin Richards came second in the section with 8lb 11.5oz ahead of Mike Taylor from Southampton with 7lb 14.5oz and Darren Phillips from Andover with 4lb 1.75oz.

John Van Crugten had the third top weight overall from A section with 7lb 5.25oz ahead of Ian Dancey 6lb14oz, Steve Deathe from Southampton 5lb 0.75oz and Tony O'Grady from Fareham with 5lb 0.25oz.

The final section was won by Joe Arch with 6lb 9.25oz followed by Paul Jones 6lb 3oz, Darren Bond 3lb-12oz and Malcolm Stote from Lymington with 2lb 15.75oz. The night's heaviest fish was a 6lb 2oz small-eyed-ray bagged by Paul Jones.

Tony Burton now heads the overall leader table with 18 penalty points while Darren Phillips and Darren Bond are just one point further adrift and Steve Deathe with 20 points.
