Loughborough UCCE coach Graham Dilley has tipped Richard Morris to be a Hampshire star.

All-rounder Morris will be playing for Loughborough UCCE in a three-day match against Hampshire tomorrow - before returning to The Rose Bowl on a summer contract at the end of term.

The 18-year-old from Newbury is in the first year of a Sport and Leisure Management degree.

Former England bowler Dilley said: "Richard is one of the younger members of our side but has tremendous potential, he could develop into someone who will serve Hampshire well for many years.

"His batting needs to develop and it will do over time but he's already an exciting bowler, he's got good pace about him at a young age and he'll get better and better as time goes on.

"There's a lot of raw talent and potential there - he's already done a good job in his first season with us."

Morris is expected to bat at number eight at The Rose Bowl, and will also be a first change bowler against a Hampshire side expected to include Loughborough UCCE alumni Jimmy Adams and Chris Benham.

Former Hampshire Academy star Morris believes that Loughborough UCCE can pull off a shock victory against some of his former second XI teammates.

If they do, it will be their second win since gaining first-class status three years ago.

Morris, who took eight championship wickets at 35.50 for Hampshire's second XI last year, said: "This is a big week for me, a good chance for me to impress and I'm looking forward to it.

"We think we've got a pretty good chance of winning, we're the strongest uni side in the country.

"If we play to our full potential we'll give them a good game."

Loughborough UCCE beat Worcestershire by eight wickets last season but their two first class games this year, against Essex and Leicestershire, have been wash-outs.

"We had a good win inside two days against Cardiff UCCE recently but the games against the counties are the big tests," admitted Morris.

Dilley, meanwhile, is looking forward to catching up with former Loughborough UCCE captain Adams as well as Benham, who is expected to skipper Hampshire against his former university side.

Adams's only first class hundred was for Loughborough UCCE against Somerset at Taunton in 2003.

But he also scored twin tons against a strong Kent side in 2002 - a year before Loughborough UCCE was awarded first-class status.

The left-hander narrowly missed out on a maiden Hampshire hundred last week, when he was out for 85, his best for the county, against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Dilley continued: "It's always nice to see our former students do well for their counties, but I just hope that Jimmy doesn't score his first Hampshire hundred against us!

"Both Jimmy and Chris have got a lot of potential and the talent to succeed. Jimmy can be too hard on himself at times but he has a lot of ability and they're both a good advert for Loughborough UCCE."

Benham scored 74 on his championship debut at Derbyshire two years ago and scored 102 in the second XI's championship win against Warwickshire last week.

Dilley added: "Chris scored one of the best UCCE hundreds I've seen in a losing cause a few years ago.

"He's a very talented individual and on that day he showed that he had the right temperament for batting and that a good hundred is not just about hitting boundaries."
