PLAYING in his first Europro Tour event since winning final qualifying school last month, Wellow pro David Porter finished a disappointing tied 44th in the Azores Championship.

After rounds of 75 and 76 the 23-year-old, pictured left, was in the middle of the golfers who had made the cut, and a final round 77 did little to change this over the Batalha course.

Porter's 228 (+12) aggregate placed him 17 shots behind event winner Damian Mooney, from Northern Ireland.

Weybrook Park's Andrew Cloke, however, upstaged his fellow Hampshire PGA rival, shooting rounds of 74, 75 and 72 to finish in a tie for 14th place.

Cloke, who along with Porter dominated the 2005 Hampshire PGA season, picked up winnings approaching 1,000 euros.

Porter and Cloke are in Portugal this week competing in the last event before the Europro Tour returns to England for a run of tournaments.
