A DRIVER who died in a horror crash in Hedge End was a talented child actor and dancer who had once starred in Oliver! at the London Palladium.

Jonathan Springall, 24, of Thurmell Close, Hedge End, died on Sunday night when the Toyota Supra he was driving overturned in Tollbar Way.

A police car was following the Toyota when the accident happened at about 11.10pm.

Mr Springall died at the scene of the crash.

Because of the close proximity of the police car to the vehicle when it overturned, the Independent Police Complaints Commission was informed of the incident in accordance with normal procedure.

Mr Springall's parents have paid tribute to their son.

In a statement they said: "On May 14, 2006, our son Jonathan was tragically killed in a road traffic accident.

"Jonathan was born on March 24, 1982, in Southampton and grew up in Hedge End.

"As a child Jonathan was a very talented actor and dancer, starring in Oliver! which was on at the London Palladium.

"Jonathan was a popular young man who was liked by most people he met.

"He had a passion for cars and motor sport and was very actively involved in track days and race meets.

"He was a vibrant and outgoing and social young man with a lust for life. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family."

A huge section of fencing near the crash site has become a shrine to the popular 24-year-old.

Scores of floral tributes, England flags and Saints shirts have been laid in memory of Mr Springall.

Since the tragedy family and friends have stopped at the scene to add their personal message to the tributes.

One referred to the talented youngster's dancing career.

It read: "John gone but never to be forgotten. Forever dancing with all the angels."
