A HAMPSHIRE brass band has paid tribute to a former member by donating to charity the proceeds of a special concert.
Otterbourne Brass staged the concert last November for its trombone player Peter Robbins, who died last month, aged 46.
Mr Robbins' widow Nicky, who plays cornet in Otterbourne Brass, was presented with two cheques at a recent band rehearsal in the village hall at Otterbourne, near Winchester.
A cheque for £375 will go to Naomi House children's hospice in Sutton Scotney, and one for £1,125 will go to the Friends of Countess Mountbatten House hospice, near Southampton, where Mr Robbins received care.
His four-year-old daughter from his first marriage, Rowena, had been cared for at Naomi House before her death from a brain tumour in 1998.
Mike Davis, band secretary, said: "We made the donation in memory of Pete."
Mr Robbins, who was already suffering from terminal cancer, attended the concert at Chandler's Ford Methodist Church given by Otterbourne Brass and the Woodfalls brass band.
Otterbourne Brass's next concert is on Sunday, June 4, at Thornden School in Chandler's Ford at 2.30pm.
Tickets cost £6 and are available from Mary Davis on 023 8027 3473.
The band was formerly known as the City of Winchester Brass but changed its name in March 2004.
