Southampton's Peter Waterfield has won the 10m platform silver for Britain at the USA Diving Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

After qualifying for the final in third position and dropping to sixth place after his third dive, Waterfield's brilliantly-executed 'back 2 somersault 2 twist pike and reverse 3 somersault tuck' edged him up to silver spot with a total of 519.40 points.

The Commonwealth silver medallist, pictured left, faced tough opposition in the form of talented Chinese teenagers Huo Liang, 16, and Lin Yue, 14, who finished either side of the Brit with 538.75 and 513.55 points respectively.

Southampton teammate Gareth Jones was also in action on the platform, but failed to qualify past the preliminary event after finishing 15th with 344.35 points.

In the weekend's other events, springboard specialists Hayley Sage (City of Sheffield) and Tandi Gerrard (City of Leeds) finished eighth in the 3m synchro with 241.02 points while Nicholas Robinson-Baker (Bagiu Diving) and Ben Swain (City of Sheffield) were ninth in the men's event with 357.03 points.

In the individual 3m springboard, Rebecca Gallantree of City of Leeds finished 21st with 235.15 points and Sage was 24th with 216.00 points.
