SCORES of former pupils from a Hampshire school helped to celebrate its centenary.

Winchester County High School was founded in 1906 and had its last intake in 1973. Today it is occupied by The Westgate Secondary School.

To celebrate its 100th birthday the old girls association held a party at Western Primary School and cut a special birthday cake.

Chris Rodger (nee Butcher), one of the organisers, said: "It's our biggest reunion. For a lot of us it will be our last big get-together."

Most of the former pupils still live locally but some came from as far afield as South Africa, France and the Channel Islands.

Two former teachers were due to attend: Bobie Sanderson, French mistress from 1951-75 and Betty Kelly who taught geography from 1942-73.
