THOUSANDS of people learned more about employment and training opportunities during the Job Scene Roadshow organised in association with the Daily Echo.

People of all ages and backgrounds, including school and college leavers, graduates, professionals and career changers had a choice of 56 different industries, companies and organisations to choose from.

Now in its sixth year, the annual event at Southamp-ton Guildhall proved a big hit with an impressive 1,000 people walking through the doors within the first couple of hours yesterday morning.

There was something for everyone with everything from accountancy and finance, health and care, customer service, retail and the emergency services represented.

Exhibitors included the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines and the Daily Echo.

The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA), Southamp-ton City College and South-ampton University's School of Nursing and Midwifery were among the training providers to take part.

Advisers from nextstep were also on hand with tips for visitors on producing a winning CV and advice on improving job prospects, getting new qualifications and making the most of your job.

Vikram Kanwar, human resources assistant at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton said: "We have had a lot of requests about both full-time and part-time job opportunities.

"People have also asked about work placements. The roadshow is better than last year."

Maeve de Burgh of TJW Exhibitions, which organised the event in association with the Daily Echo, said 'Job Scene the Roadshow' was mutually beneficial for exhibitors and visitors.

"All the exhibitors get to meet a wide range of people face to face. For jobs that require good customer service, or a good telephone manner, they can look at candidates' personal interaction and assess their ability before any interview.

"Some of the people have come today fully prepared with CVs and are very well presented.

"And it gives visitors a good chance to have a face to face chat with employers.''

Other exhibitors included Adecco, Enterprise Rent A Car, First Wessex Housing Group, NHS Careers, Red Funnel Group and Southampton City Council.
