IMPROVEMENTS to a Hampshire recreation ground could soon be carried out despite fears that it could lead to an increase in antisocial behaviour.

Fareham Borough Council's planning committee is meeting today and will discuss the proposed changes to the Locks Heath Recreation Ground in Warsash Road.

The improvements include installing a seated shelter for up to 161 people and a standing shelter for between 120 and 140 spectators.

The application has been made by Locks Heath Football Club and comes after the team was promoted to the Sydenhams Wessex League.

The council has received a number of letters from residents worried about the impact the construction will have on public usage of the ground.

Other concerns include a loss of rural character, parking problems and a fear of increased anti- social behaviour.

Fareham Access Group has also voiced concerns about access for disabled users.

The planning development control committee meets in the Collingwood Room.
