TELEVISION newsreader and Daily Echo columnist Fred Dinenage had the honour of cutting the ribbon of a new community store while picking up donations for two Hampshire charities.

The famous face for viewers in the south was more than happy to open the new Lee-on-the-Solent Co-op store in Twyford Drive, Cherque Farm, as bosses from Southern Co-operatives donated cash to mark the opening of their 100th store.

Celebrating their century of stores, staff at the firm gave vital funding to Hampshire children's hospice Naomi House in Sutton Scotney, near Winchester, and Rowans Hospice in Purbrook, near Portsmouth.

The donation is the latest in a series of fundraising events by Co-op in the south who have donated thousands of pounds to local charities and community projects.
