THE residents of Fareham are recycling more than any other area in Hampshire according to the latest statistics.
Fareham is successfully recycling 35.4 per cent of its waste beating the 30 per cent target set for the borough for April 2006 and is working towards the 40 per cent target set for April 2007.
Eventually, it is hoped all Hampshire authorities will hit the Project Integra target of a 50 per cent recycling rate by the year 2010.
Fareham borough councillor Brian Bayford, executive member for Streetscene, said: "We're extremely pleased that all our actions over the last 18 months have raised the recycling rate to the highest in the county.
"We appreciate the hard work and effort put in by our local community but we still have further targets to meet and are hoping for further improvement in the coming year."
