THREE generations of the same family were rescued by neighbours and firefighters after a fire broke out in their Hampshire home this morning.

Neighbours managed to rescue a mother and her daughter by putting a ladder up to the bedroom where they were trapped.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service rescued the 84-year-old disabled grandfather from his first floor bedroom.

Firefighters were called to the property at The Croft in Stubbington near Fareham just after midnight after the alarm was raised by residents.

While the elderly man was checked by paramedics almost 20 firefighters then tackled the blaze at the flat at The Croft that broke out in the lounge. It is not being treated as suspicious.

The elderly man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns while the two women were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The family dog and two hamsters were also rescued.

Although smoke alarms were fitted at the property, they were not thought to be working.
