LIKE many mums, Nicky Carter knows only too well that changing a duvet cover can be a seemingly endless wrestling match but her new invention aims to banish those bedroom battles for good.

Nicky's revolutionary duvet cover known as ZippityDuvet is bidding for success at Innovention 2006, the competition that uncovers the brightest and best new inventors in the south.

Nicky's labour-saving ZippityDuvet has zips running round three sides of the cover that allow it to be almost completely opened. It is then child's play to slide the duvet inside and zip it up again.

"It is a very simple idea. I just woke up one day and thought there must be an easier way to change the duvet covers so I sat down and drew up this," said Nicky, 56, from Milford on Sea, near Lymington.

Nicky has had her design registered with the Patent Office in the UK and Europe and is working with a firm in China, who also supply Gloria Vanderbilt and Next, to produce her first batch in a range of sizes, colours and patterns.
