COLLEGE lecturer Mike Plummer is the Liberal Democrat candidate for New Forest West.

Mr Plummer, 54, of Poole, Dorset, has lectured in business and management for 26 years.

He has also travelled extensively, backpacking across four continents and travelling up the River Amazon as well as working as a road manager of a rock band in Canada.

And he once walked 120 miles to the House of Commons to deliver a petition demanding more money for education in Dorset.

Mr Plummer also led a team that ran and power-walked to the Commons to prevent the closure of a REMPLOY factory for disabled people.

His other achievements include collecting and donating thousands of textbooks to third world schools in Africa through Book Aid International.

Mr Plummer lists his interests as travel and the environment.

He says election issues in New Forest West include the introduction of larger Wightlink ferries on the Lymington to Yarmouth route. The vessels have been declared unlawful by a High Court judge.

His wife Janet is an English and drama teacher. The couple have two daughters, Cathy, 21, and Merry, 18.
