New Forest Greens have launched a campaign for a hike in the state pension in one of the greyest towns in the country – New Milton.
Greens want the single person’s state pension to be increased from £97.65 per week to £170 per week, the minimum required to stay above the poverty line, according to the National Pensioners' Convention.
New Forest East candidate Beverley Golden said: “It is not right that people live in poverty after a lifetime of work.”
New Forest Eest candidate Janet Richards added Greens would also provide free personal and nursing care.
The “grey vote” is expected to make up more than two thirds of turnout in New Milton.
