THIEVES broke through a wall and into a safe to steal several thousand pounds from a betting shop in Southampton.
It happened sometime between about 7pm on Sunday and around 8am on Monday at Corals Bookmakers in Pound Tree Road.
Tools had been used to break in through a rear wall to get to the safe and then that had had also been broken into and several thousand pounds taken.
A pile of rubble was found behind the shop along with the tools used. The break-in was discovered by a member of staff when she turned up for work in the morning.
Officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the burglary or who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact them.
They are asked to call PC Chris Collins at Southampton Central Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
