THE FORMER chairman of Hampshire Ambulance Service and the former director of social services at Hampshire County Council are just two of the non-executive members of a new health authority. Tony Barron and Terry Butler will join Joe McLoone and Alyson Coates as the four new non-executive directors of the newly merged NHS South Central.

This new health authority will lead the NHS across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Oxfordshire, following the merger on July 1 of the two existing SHAs covering this area which were Hampshire and Isle of Wight SHA and Thames Valley SHA.

Geoff Harris, chairman of NHS South Central, said: "The launch of the new streamlined health authority marks the next step in reform of the NHS. We will be responsible for driving change faster and further to benefit patients and taxpayers.

"This board will bring together a wealth of skills and experience to enable us to support this."

NHS South Central will serve a population of around four million people across 10,000 sq km with an NHS budget of £4.5 billion.
