FORMER Saints star Andrew Surman has married his childhood sweetheart in Hampshire.
The midfielder and girlfriend of six years Laura Howard, both 23, have a 16-month-old son Alfie who was ring-bearer at the wedding at St Leonard’s Church, Bursledon. The ceremony was held outdoors at Bradbury Manor, Netley Abbey.
Andrew told the audience he fell in love with his new bride at just 14 when he saw her walking across a playground at St Mary’s College where the St Anne’s schoolgirl came to take part in a play.
They were friends for several years before he plucked up the courage to ask her on a date.
Andrew’s new mother-in-law Lin Howard said: “The ceremony was simple and not what people think of when you talk about footballers’ weddings.
“It was magical and romantic – it was Alice in Wonderland meets Darling Buds of May.”
The £1m rated footballer came through the Saints youth programme and played for the team in the Championship for more than three and half years before signing for Premiership side Wolves last summer. Last season, as Southampton’s fortunes have improved, speculation has increased that he may be in line for a return to St Mary’s.
