A PARISH council chairman could be suspended for up to three months over an alleged breach of code of conduct.

Fawley Parish Council chairman Alexis McEvoy will be questioned by a standards panel on Monday.

An investigation was launched into claims she revealed confidential information about the outcome of an earlier probe by the Standards Board for England (SBE).

Fellow parish and district councillor Malcolm Fidler has accused Cllr McEvoy of disclosing the contents of the SBE report in a statement on June 20, 2005 to the parish council and then to the press. He says she misrepresented the report's finding by claiming she had been completely "vindicated" by an ethical standards officer.

Cllr Fidler says this brought her office or the council into disrepute and that it has created a culture with Fawley Parish Council that declarations of interest are no longer required.

The SBE had been asked to look at whether Cllr McEvoy abused her position to gain an advantage.

It was alleged by Cllr Filder that she failed to withdraw from a series of parish council meetings to discuss the council's website designers.

Cllr Fidler alleged that the website designers had also worked for a political party on behalf of Mrs McEvoy's company and that the parish council website had a link to the restaurant which Cllr McEvoy owns.

An ethical standards officer found Cllr McEvoy had a personal, although not prejudicial interest, and that she had not abused her position. The officer decided that no action needed to be taken.

New Forest District Council's Standards Panel will rule on Cllr Fidler's latest allegations on Monday.

Cllr McEvoy denies knowingly disclosing confidential information.

"I'm appalled by the whole thing," she said. "This is the nasty side of politics."

If the standard panel decides Mrs McEvoy breached the code, she could be censured, banned from council premises or suspended for up to three months.
