FAREHAM is backing the government's Commit to Get Fit campaign.

The town's leisure centre will be offering special introductory incentives throughout July to encourage people to take their first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

The campaign, supported by the NHS, will also raise valuable funds for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Ian Cook, fitness manager at Fareham's Banana Fitness said: "This summer we want to encourage residents to make physical activity an essential part of their lives.

"We will be offering ten days of fitness for £5, and a chance to experience not only the gym, but the pool and our extensive range of exercise classes, too."

Sponsored by BUPA, the 2006 Commit To Get Fit campaign aims to encourage more than 100,000 people to be more active, more often.

Trained professionals from more than 500 health clubs and leisure centres across the UK will offer help and advice on how to incorporate physical activity into busy lives and enjoy access to quality facilities.
