EX-Saints footballer Calum Davenport has denied head-butting and trying to throttle his sister, claiming he only intervened to stop her punching their father.

Davenport, who made seven appearances for Southampton in 2005, is accused of attacking on his sister Cara after she fell pregnant again by a second man.

During a row the 27-year-old, pictured, grabbed her by the throat and bundled her to the ground, Luton Crown Court heard.

He then head-butted her before biting her cheek during the attack on August 22 last year, prosecutor Beverly Cripps claimed.

Miss Davenport, 28, alerted her boyfriend, Worrell Whitehurst, who tracked her brother down and stabbed him in both legs, the jury was told.

Yesterday, her brother, claimed he was trying to restrain his sister after she punched their father Curtis.

Davenport said: “I got in the middle of them and she punched me once in the face.

“I grabbed her by the wrists. I was trying to calm her down and restrain her when we fell on the stairs.

“As we went down I smashed her in the side of her face.”
