A TEENAGER has been banned from his school prom days after getting an invite and spending £130 on a new tuxedo.

Grant Dean was delighted when he got a ticket through the post to attend the big occasion at Elmers Court in Lymington.

But days later the 16-year-old, who is a pupil at Noadswood School was told that it had been a mistake and he could not go because of his poor attendance record.

Grant, who now works part time for a building company, said: "I was devastated. I spent my wages on buying a new tuxedo.

"I have never been excluded or suspended from school and feel that I should be allowed to go. It's not fair."

Alex Bernard, headt eacher of the 1,082-pupil school in North Road, Dibden Purlieu, apologised for the invite being sent out by mistake.

The school has also offered to reimburse Grant the £130 cost of the tuxedo provided the receipt was submitted.

Mr Bernard confirmed that Grant was banned from the prom because of his poor attendance.

"He has been on a reduced timetable since September but regularly failed to turn up to lessons.

"We have a clear school policy that pupils with a poor attendance record cannot go to the prom."
