TWO men believed to be Saints supporters have been arrested after a man was left with bruising following an attack on a train.
A 33-year-old man said that two men on board the 6.10pm Southampton to Salisbury service had assaulted him after he asked them to stop using abusive language.
The attack left the victim, from Andover, with reddening and bruising to his head and shoulders and resulted in him losing a tooth. Police were called to Salisbury railway station at 6.55pm on Saturday, and the men, both aged 20, from Southampton and Romsey, were arrested.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said it was believed that the men are Southampton Football Club supporters, but it is not yet known whether they were returning from Saturday’s match at St Mary’s Stadium against Tranmere Rovers.
They were later released on bail until Thursday, November 18, pending further inquiries.
Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
